Why won't my earbuds / headphones connect to my iOS device?

Apple promises a seamless and nearly magical experience with their wireless AirPods. However, it might happen that the earbuds just won't connect.
To pair a Bluetooth accessory to your iOS or iPadOS device, please do the following:
Put your Bluetooth accessory and your device closer.
Turn your Bluetooth accessory off and on.
Check that your Bluetooth accessory is on and charged or connected to power. If your accessory is on batteries, check if they need to be replaced.
Go to Settings > Privacy > Bluetooth on your device, and make sure that Bluetooth for the app is on.
By the way... Sometimes returning your earbuds to their charging case may also help reset them so you can reconnect them to your iOS device.
